This is a glossary of terms used in this section of the wiki. It's not definitive, and kind of speculative.
- network service
- an instance of software accessed or controlled through a computer network. Examples: web sites, web applications, web APIs, SMTP servers, IRC servers, Jabber servers, Bittorrent peers, MySQL servers.
- Web service
- A network service that primarily uses the HTTP protocol.
- network service software
- the software that a network service runs. For example, the email server at antipater.rutagi.net runs the Postfix software. Many network services can run the same network service software.

- Free Data
- data or cultural works made available under a Free license.
- Developer
- someone who writes software.
- user
- someone who uses software.
- deployer
- someone who makes software available for use by others through a network.
