Summary
Destination: Reykjavik.
Dates: December 30 - January 13 (Tentative). We'll be back in time for the Mystery Hunt.
Description
The Acetarium Retreat 2011 is intended for the friends and inhabitants of the Acetarium to gather, relax and enjoy good company, often in geothermal pools, in Iceland. Participants are encouraged to bring their favorite books and games and project ideas -- there will be more time to think than you've ever imagined possible.
Useful Information
- We're trying to rent a flat in Reykjavik that can fit a maximum of 10 people.
- The places will most likely have wireless Internet there.
- In case if there are more than 10 people, we should be able to accomodate. There is an apartment immediately next door to the 10 person flat we are considering that can hold 8. There are some hotels that seem to be comfortable and about the same price.
- Rent/hostel fees seem to be between $15-25 (US) per night.
- Mystery Hunt will start at noon on 2011/01/14 (Friday).

Getting There
There seem to be two real options:
- Iceland Air which flies direct from Boston for $500 and up for a round trip ticket.
- Iceland Express which flies from Newark and can be as low at $300 for two one-way tickets.

We are reserving one apartment place that can hold a maximum 8 people from December 30th through January 13th. This includes a person sleeping on a couch in the living room so ideally we'll get two places and sleep 6 or 7 in this apartment. The cost is $2160/week or $20/night/person if the place has eight people sleeping in.
The landlord has additional places in a guesthouse if there is a small amount of overflow and apartments (including one next door) if there is more.

There is an apartment next door from the same landlord that can hold 10 people that will be available from the 2nd of January through the 13th. If enough people express interest in the table above, we can also rent the second place. Otherwise, we can look for small places in the area. Folks can expect to rent for between US $15-35 per night in shared apartment. Obviously, the bigger the place, the cheaper the per-person/per-night cost.
