About Page link: http://cyber.law.harvard.edu/research/cooperation/about

Cooperation is an interdisciplinary community of researchers, projects, and practitioners engaged in studying the underlying factors that contribute to social cooperation.

We aim to encourage dialogue and serve as a meeting point for work occurring on cooperation in variety of fields including sociology, political science, experimental and behavioral economics, organizational studies, law, internet studies, business research, human-computer interaction, and psychology. Our goal is to not only share insights from these many individual fields, but also to support the development of new research methods that draw on these diverse talents and perspectives.

Our current activities include several quantitative and qualitative studies of online cooperation and common-based peer production, and a weekly workshop where we discuss research on social cooperation from a variety of academic disciplines.

The Cooperation Workshop group is a small, user-driven forum for discussing early-stage cooperation research and ideas in depth. Most (but not all) participants are Berkman Fellows. Each week, one participant shares a piece of work with the group for discussion and feedback.

Other researchers are welcome to join. We ask two things of any participant:

  • Each week some contextual writing is shared about the subject to be discussed. It can be the draft of a paper, an extended abstract, the description of a research idea or a paper (perhaps by another author) that provides important background for the topic being discussed. We expect everybody who joins the group to read this material in advance.
  • We ask that members (especially those who wish to present their work) become regular participants so that they can provide feedback on the readings.
