Schedule

We'll set the specifics of the schedule during the agenda setting meeting on Friday morning and we'll check in every morning at 9:30 to set the specific agenda for each day.

I've planned to have Saturday off but if the weather looks like it will be nicer on Sunday or Friday and bad on the other days, we'll switch this around.

Every evening after dinner, we'll start a fire and have fireside time for reading, conversations, games, etc, in the Whiteley Center reading room.

Meals and Food

The cafeteria at Friday Harbor Labs where we will be staying won't be open while we are here and there will be seven of us. As a result, meals are going to involve pretty basic cold breakfasts and material for us all to make our own sandwiches for lunch. We'll do more complicated communally cooked meals in the evenings.

I'm vegetarian so all the stuff I'll be buying to cook for our meals will be vegetarian as well. If you want to bring meat or fish to cook in your cabins, you're welcome to do so but you'll be on your own in terms of cooking and paying for it.

I'll be finalizing a menu and buying food for everybody on Thursday afternoon. Please let me know of any dietary restrictions before them.

We'll do one meal out in town in the evening of our afternoon off if you'd like to join.

Things to Bring

Things you should bring:

  • Your laptop! This is a work retreat, after all.
  • Your Entrust token if you have one to log into Hyak so we can work with the data.
  • Paper, pens, notebooks, and other brainstorming material.
  • Any books you want to read and/or refer to.

Also, there will be time for socializing exploring outside. Toward that end, you may also want to bring:

  • Beer, wine etc - There's obviously no budget for alcohol so bring any booze you want to consume. As in life, one earns many extra points when you're willing to share!
  • Waterproof clothing and shoes - We'll mostly be inside but we'll definitely have an afternoon off to strike out and explore. The trails around here are beautiful but they are muddy and wet.
  • Games, cards, etc to play in the evenings.
