Although I was unable to attned the walkabout of the course, I appreciate the efforts the Course Committee made to ensure every member had an opportunity to contribute their thoughts, should they have had any doubts over the intended plans. I would also like to thank Course for providing a simple breakdown of the intended changes, the vast majority of which I agree with, particularly in light of the results of last winter's changes. However, in contrast to Stewart, I am extremely concerned about the intended change to the OOB to the right of the 12th, bringing the OOB in line with the boundary. This seems a particularly confusing decision given the extensive discussions that have taken place for some time now about the problems with balls leaving the boundaries of the course, notably at the 4th and less so the 18th, whereby the risk of legal action by an external party is deemed so great, considerations are being made for the closure of the hole in current format and a re-modeling of the course undertaken. As such, it seems incredible that any change to the course that increases the possibility of balls leaving the boundaries of the course, however small, is being considered, as it flies directly in the face of the strategy taken elsewhere. If the boundaries are moved back, people WILL  even if subconsciously  aim further to the right (indeed, this is the reverse effect of adjusting the direction of the netting on the right of the 4th tee, which is designed to subconsciously make players aim slightly further left). A resultant slice or block will stand a better chance of finding the road.Perhaps further consideration should be given to this decision. It seems that the changes to the right of the 12th have been under discussion after concerns with the longer players aiming down the 14th. One of the reasons for this, as Stewart states and as Rob Macauley has noted on another post, is that the longer players can go out of bounds after hitting a ball straight down the fairway, a few feet right of the bunker. Perhaps a compromise would be to move only this section of the out of bounds (for example, after the large tree) back towards the boundary, thus negating the risk of going out of bounds long but not encouraging the larger majority of players to aim further right (although, doing this would probably encourage players to hit driver off the tee as the perceived risk is lower, and any resultant poor shot played with this club again runs a higher risk of leaving the course). Please note that if there are specific reasons for the removal of the out of bounds other than to solve the problem of players aiming down the 14th, which I am not aware of, my comments may seem out of context and I apologise to Course accordinglyRegards,David Gibson.
